World Cup 2026: Injured Alexander Djiku backs Black Stars ahead ofÂ Panama clash

Ghana defender Alexander Djiku may not be on the pitch for the Black Stars' World Cup opener against Panama, but his heart remains firmly with his teammates.

The centre-back was ruled out of the tournament after suffering a hamstring injury, with Derrick Luckassen called up as his replacement.

Djiku took to social media to rally the squad ahead of Wednesday's crucial Group L encounter at BMO Field in Toronto.

The absence of the vice-captain is a significant blow for Carlos Queiroz's side, with Djiku's leadership and defensive experience sorely missed. Jordan Ayew leads the team in Djiku's absence, becoming Ghana's oldest-ever World Cup player at 34 years and 279 days.

Djiku's words, however, reflect the unity and belief within the camp. With the Black Stars aiming to end a seven-match winless run and reach the knockout stage for the first time since 2010, the defender's rallying cry could provide the emotional spark needed to overcome Panama.
