US President Trump quickly fired Attorney General Pam Bondi on Thursday after months of difficult relationship.

He named his former personal lawyer to serve as the acting head of the Justice Department.

This action came in a social media post by the Republican president.

The move happened as people complained about Bondi's handling of the Epstein files.

They also noted her failure to successfully prosecute some people Trump considered his enemies.

'Pam Bondi is a Great American Patriot and loyal friend, who faithfully served as my Attorney General over the past year,' Trump said on Truth Social.
'Pam did tremendous job overseeing a major crackdown on Crime across our Country.'

Bondi 'will transition to a much needed and important new job in the private sector,' the president said.

She will be replaced on an interim basis by Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche.

Trump described Blanche as 'a very talented and respected Legal Mind.'

Bondi has been a strong Trump ally but has faced criticism from some supporters.

This criticism relates to her handling of Justice Department files on convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

Epstein died in a New York jail cell in 2019 while awaiting trial for sex trafficking.

The Epstein situation has become a major political problem for Trump.

Trump has been a longtime friend of the disgraced financier.

Bondi has reportedly also angered Trump by failing to prosecute people Trump considers enemies.

These include former FBI director James Comey and New York Attorney General Letitia James.

According to The New York Times, Trump may name former Republican congressman Lee Zeldin.

Zeldin is the head of the Environmental Protection Agency.

He might be appointed as the next attorney general.

For now, the position will be filled by Blanche.

Blanche was one of Trump's personal lawyers.

He defended Trump in multiple criminal cases after Trump left the White House in 2021.

Bondi, in a post on X, said serving as attorney general has been 'the honor of a lifetime.'

She said she will 'continue fighting for President Trump' in a new private sector job.

The nature of this new job is not yet known.

'Over the next month I will work tirelessly to transition the office of Attorney General to the amazing Todd Blanche,' she said.
'I remain eternally grateful for the trust that President Trump placed in me to Make America Safe Again.'

Bondi's ouster came nearly one month after Trump fired Kristi Noem.

Noem was the head of the Department of Homeland Security.

Democratic lawmakers welcomed Bondi's firing.

'Good riddance,' said Senator Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts.
'Under Attorney General Pam Bondi, the Department of Justice became a cesspool of corruption,' Warren said.
'Bondi will be remembered for blocking the release of the Epstein files.'

Senator Dick Durbin is the ranking Democratic member on the Senate Judiciary Committee.

He said Bondi's legacy 'will be the weaponization of the world's preeminent law enforcement agency for Donald Trump's personal benefit.'

Bondi joined Trump's legal team during his first impeachment trial.

During that trial, he was accused of pressuring Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

The allegation was that he wanted to find political dirt on Democrat Joe Biden.

Trump was impeached by the Democrat-controlled House of Representatives.

He was acquitted by the Republican-majority Senate.

Bondi helped push Trump's false claims of voter fraud after he lost the 2020 election to Biden.

She made television appearances for Trump.

She pushed to delegitimize vote counting in swing states.

This was part of the former president's effort to overturn the election results.

Bondi also criticized the criminal cases brought against Trump.

She showed solidarity at his New York trial.

There, he was convicted of falsifying business records.

This was to cover up hush money payments to a porn star.

Bondi served as a prosecutor for 18 years before being elected Florida's attorney general in 2010.

She was the first woman to hold that position.

She was re-elected to a second term in 2014.
