ISD receives broadcast vans to boost public education in W/Region

Three brand-new outdoor broadcast vans have been handed over to the Information Services Department (ISD) in the Western Region to strengthen public education and community outreach.

The vehicles, each fitted with public address systems, are expected to support mobile engagements and improve access to timely information, particularly in underserved communities.

At a brief ceremony, Western Regional Minister Joseph Nelson cautioned ISD officials to ensure the proper use and maintenance of the vans, warning that misuse will not be tolerated.

He stressed that past experiences of poor handling of state assets must not be repeated, urging officers to apply lessons learnt to prolong the lifespan of the equipment.

“These are not for funerals, not for errands, and certainly not for private use,” he said, adding that the vehicles are meant to serve communities that often struggle to access reliable information.

“You have lived through the system. You know how vehicles have been handled in ways that did not help to prolong their lifespan. There are important lessons to learn from the past to guide you,” he added.

Mr. Nelson noted that timely and accurate information remains critical in enabling citizens to make informed decisions on issues such as sanitation, health and other social concerns.

He said the provision of the vans places a renewed responsibility on the department to step up its outreach and ensure that relevant information reaches communities across the region.

“You are now in a position to inform the public effectively. We expect that this will greatly improve the dissemination of important information,” he stated.

He also called for accountability, urging officers to take good care of the vehicles and ensure they are not diverted for private use or left idle.

Receiving the vehicles, the Western Regional Director of the ISD, Thomas Tabiri, said the vans will enable the ISD to expand its presence and intensify public education campaigns across the region.

According to him, the vehicles will be deployed to key areas, including the northern belt, coastal communities and mining zones where access to timely information remains a challenge.

He added that the intervention will help curb misinformation and strengthen direct engagement between government and citizens.
