President John Dramani Mahama has inspected newly acquired transformers at the Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo) yard in Tamale as part of his #ResettingGhana Tour of the Northern Region.

The visit forms part of government’s efforts to stabilise power supply and improve electricity distribution across the country.

Speaking during the inspection, Mahama noted that many existing transformers have become overstretched due to increased demand over the years. He explained that infrastructure installed decades ago is now serving significantly larger populations, resulting in instability in power supply.

The President expressed optimism about the future of Ghana’s energy sector, indicating that government is working towards localising transformer production to strengthen capacity and ensure long-term sustainability.

He also commended NEDCo and the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) for their efforts in maintaining power distribution despite the challenges.

Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Jinapor, said government is currently at the deployment stage of high-capacity transformers in the Northern operational area.

According to him, while about 400 transformers were initially requested for the region, government has approved the supply of 500 units to enhance power distribution and improve system reliability.

Jinapor appealed to the public to remain patient as installation works continue.

The intervention is part of broader measures under the #ResettingGhana agenda aimed at modernising energy infrastructure and ensuring stable and efficient power supply nationwide.
