Two suspected armed robbers have been shot by police following a robbery incident at Tema Community 5 in the Greater Accra Region.

According to a press release from the Tema Regional Police Command of the Ghana Police Service, the incident occurred on Monday, April 13, 2026, at about 8:30 a.m.

The suspects reportedly attacked a mobile money (MoMo) vendor at Aba Fosua Plaza under the pretext of making a cash withdrawal.

During the incident, one of the suspects, who was on a motorbike with an accomplice, pulled a pistol and demanded a bag containing cash after the victim attempted to process the transaction.

A struggle ensued, during which the victim was shot in the leg before the suspects fled the scene on a motorbike.

Police say a patrol team responding to a distress call intercepted the suspects near Smart Hotel at Community 6.

The suspects, who were riding a black Royal motorbike, reportedly opened fire on the police team, prompting officers to return fire.

Both suspects sustained gunshot wounds and fell off the motorbike during the exchange.

They have since been arrested and are receiving treatment under police guard as investigations continue.
