The Ghana Armed Forces has confirmed that one of its escort convoys protecting civilians came under attack in the Upper East Region, leaving three civilians dead and one injured.

In a statement issued on Monday (27 April 2026), the military said the incident occurred at Binduri when unknown gunmen opened fire on a convoy escorting about 140 civilians. The convoy was travelling from Bawku towards Bolgatanga.

According to the statement, the convoy was “shot at several times,” resulting in casualties among the civilians being protected.

The military, however, said its personnel responded swiftly and successfully repelled the attack. In the ensuing engagement, seven of the assailants were killed.

“In pursuit, the military discovered and retrieved from an escapee who went to a mosque, a G3 automatic rifle, two filled magazines of 20 rounds each and 176 rounds of additional ammunition,” the statement noted.

The Armed Forces further disclosed that ten suspects have since been arrested and are assisting with ongoing investigations.

The military has cautioned the public against interfering with security operations, urging civilians to desist from engaging personnel during such missions.

It also extended condolences to the families of the deceased and wished the injured a speedy recovery.
