Six private security guards have been arrested by the Ghana Police Service in connection with the shooting incident involving former Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament, Hon. Sarah Adwoa Safo, at Kwabenya in Accra on Sunday, June 21, 2026.

The arrests follow a police operation launched after the former legislator reportedly sustained injuries during a confrontation at a private residence in the area.

According to a statement issued by the Police Administration on Sunday, preliminary investigations indicate that personnel from the National Operations Directorate and the Intelligence Directorate, who were on a special assignment, responded to a distress call from a residence at Kwabenya.

Upon arrival, officers established that a ceremony was underway at the residence of Mr. Tamakloe Safo Jehoshaphat, also known as “Akofena”, when Hon. Adwoa Safo reportedly arrived and sought access to the premises.

Police said she was denied entry, leading to circumstances that are now the subject of an ongoing investigation.

Investigators further revealed that armed security personnel stationed at the residence allegedly discharged firearms during the incident. The gunfire reportedly resulted in injuries to Hon. Adwoa Safo, while her vehicle sustained multiple gunshot impacts.

As part of the operation, police conducted a search which led to the retrieval of five pump-action guns, a Taurus pistol loaded with seven rounds of 9mm ammunition, an additional magazine containing five rounds of 9mm ammunition, as well as communication equipment believed to have been used by the security personnel.
